What are you going to do about this Jesus?
Just before Jesus ascends into Heaven, Jesus says to the disciples that they will receive power - the Holy Ghost. This power, will give them strength to be witnesses to all corners of the Earth (Acts 1:8).
If you turn one page in your Bible to Acts 2, you can read the first hand account of the disciples receiving this Power for the first time. Not only are the disciples experiencing something powerful like a rushing, mighty wind, but they personally feel this new force rising in them through the evidence of speaking with an unknown tongue.
Their prayer meeting continues to the streets, and bystanders assume that they are drunk. Peter stands with authority and Power, and preaches one of the greatest sermons in the New Testament.
Peter tells the story of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ to His death and resurrection. Whom many of these listeners personally witnessed Jesus’ miracles and resurrection.
“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (Acts 2:36)
It isn’t until we acknowledge that this same Jesus, who performed miracles, who was crucified, who resurrected Himself - this same Jesus is both Lord and Christ. Then, we can ask the question, what should we do? (Acts 2:37)
A.W. Tozer writes in “The Crucified Life:
“If Christ is alive, then you must do something about Him. If He is alive, then He is on your conscience until you have done something about it. And that He is alive proven by the coming down of the Holy Ghost to carry the evidence straight to the conscience of man… So I must hear, I must listen, I must identify, I must admit, I must follow, I must devote, I must dedicate. I must follow the Lamb wherever He goes. He is on my conscience until I do.”
The question we must all ask and answer ourselves, no matter what mile marker we are in our relationship with God, is “What am I going to do about this Jesus?”
If you believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then I must believe and live out that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No matter the culture, governing politics, or sciences, above all this same Jesus is Lord and Christ in my life.
